Welcome to the online home of the Bridgnorth Team Ministry of the Church of England

The team comprises five churches in the district of Bridgnorth. St Mary Magdalene in Bridgnorth's market town, usually has three Sunday services, including communion at 10.30am. The four churches in the surrounding villages of Quatford, Oldbury, Tasley and Astley Abbotts each have a weekly Sunday service.

In Bridgnorth, our Anglican church dedicated to St Mary Magdalene is Thomas Telford's first church, built in 1794, next to the castle ruin, and offering sweeping views across High Town, Low Town and the River Severn. The original Chapel in the Castle was built in 1101, and rebuilt in the second half of the 14th century, in the central bailey across the site of our present church.

Telford's design is the third church on the site, which was his ninth choice of location! His first choice was at the opposite end of East Castle Street, and would have looked imposing at the end of the High Street, but unfortunately the landowner refused to sell, and so he had to settle for building on the 'old ground'. To set off the end of East Castle Street, Telford turned the design 90 degrees, to face north-south, with the tower at the north end.

The church is open daily 9-5 and also for services and special events, and our stewards enjoy welcoming visitors from all over the world.

Whether a visitor or resident, we welcome you to join us at any of our services - please make yourself known to our sidesmen for any information or guidance you may need.
